Lavender Distillation Workshop

Join Emmaline Molloy of Valley Botanicals for a live lavender hydrosol distillation workshop set in the peaceful surroundings of Carmel Valley. This immersive experience will engage your senses and deepen your connection to the natural world as you explore the alchemical process of distillation. Working with the elements—fire, air, metal, earth, and water—you’ll gain a hands-on understanding of how plant essence is transformed into aromatic hydrosol.

What to Expect

This hands-on workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of plant distillation. You’ll learn each step of the process using a traditional copper still, gaining a clear understanding of how to extract hydrosol and essential oil from fresh plant material.

Emmaline will guide you through a sensory experience that engages touch, smell, taste, sight, and sound as you work directly with the plants and the distillation equipment. You’ll observe how the elements—fire, water, air, and earth—play a role in transforming raw plant material into aromatic plant waters.

The workshop includes a tour of our medicinal Organic Lavender farm, where you’ll learn about the properties and uses of Lavandula angustifolia. We’ll discuss both the practical and therapeutic benefits of this plant, along with how it can support physical and emotional well-being.

By the end of the day, you’ll have a better understanding of distillation, experience working with plants in a meaningful way, and take home a bottle of your own handcrafted Lavender hydrosol as well as fresh Lavender bundles.
